I received a quilt referral from a woman at church who has a niece undergoing treatment for aplastic anemia and a bone marrow transplant who is 22. Yikes. She is very scared and having a hard time with treatments. They basically kill everything off inside you, then add the bone marrow. Has to be a horrifying experience. I sent some photos of what I had, and the woman picked one. I washed and made the bag and kit up for her and she delivered it. I understand the young woman is pretty ill and no progress yet.
This was the ...

This quilt has been a long time coming. It started inspired by a quilt I saw at a quilt show years ago. When I finished piecing it, it did not match what I saw in my mind. I was looking for some floating feeling from the floral 4 patches. I found a great border, but it still sat. Finally, I forced myself to quilt it. It was a lot of work as it is a big quilt and there was a lot of quilting.
It is finished, but it still does not live up to what I had seen in ...
My strip bins overfloweth. The big problem is the floor around them is collecting strips as well. I don't like the mess of sorting into colors, so, I wait until the situation is urgent. I am trying to clean the floor in my sewing room. It has to be done.

This is the 1 1/2 inch strip drawer unleashed. Hard to believe all this was in one drawer.
Pink Hearts is sewn together and measures 60" x 77". When I made the 3 pink quilts 2 years ago I thought I was low on pink fabric. Only about 5 of these fabrics are new. I used batiks and Kaffe fabrics in with my other pink quilting fabrics so I would have a good variety. I think there are 44 different fabrics in this one.
Weather Report Snail's Trail is 60" x 84". I have a large piece of the lighter blue fabric for the back of the quilt.
I need to do the staystitching around the edge ...
read moreThis Snail's Trail ended up with a scrappy multicolor look. I put up all of the blocks and only changed 3 of them before taking down the rows and clipping them for sewing today or tomorrow.
I didn't take a final photo of the heart quilt and just took it down column by column as I was ready to add them for webbing the top. I have all of the seams sewn in one direction and 2 seams sewn the other direction. 9 more seams to sew.
If you read my post yesterday I mentioned making another scrappy ... read more
I love to sew. Sew quilts. I hate to write, it is like giving blood. I have all kinds of photos taken, labelled and ready to post, but it is tough for me to do.
So, let me start with two quilt finishes. They are comfort quilts and not claimed yet. The first has blocks of 30s fabric that were given to me about half done. I thought about putting them on point and adding lots of neutrals- cream, white and then a muted periwinkle blue. I wanted it longer, so I added the white strip top and bottom. The ...
I wasn't ready to take the Bear Paw blocks off the design wall yet so I got out the dust mop and cleaned up all of the dust bunnies so I could use the floor for photos. This older project is sewn together now and is in the 40" x 64" range right now. I have lots of the fabrics that are in it so I could add borders. I'll think about this for awhile.
Here are the true colors in that one. It looks like a fall quilt and it does have rust and beige in it ... read more
Bear Paw block number three is sewn. I love the leaf print in the large squares. I think I have a little piece of every color that it came in.
Then I switched to working on the older project. There was one panel sewn about 20 years ago so I'm continuing to piece panels the same size. There are 4 of them on the design wall.
I moved the left panel to the top right in this photo.
This is all of the rest of the parts that are sewn. There are lots more of the triangle fabrics already ... read more
In the morning I went to the back garden and checked on the Sedums that I transplanted out there in May. The blooms ... read more
It was another beautiful day yesterday but I just couldn't get going on much. I did sew 16 more 4 patches for an older project that I showed around a week ago. I can see why I stalled on the project...no variety, just the same thing over and over.
I moved the lighter peach block in from the top left corner (as it was on yesterday's post) and moved a few other blocks and thought I was ready to sew. I decided to give it one more day to be sure.

Last week was a workshop with our quilt guild. Our resident quilt queen had agreed to teach her 2 nd last time 4 patch posey class. I needed to find the two I had already started, to take and finish at the workshop. I, certainly, did not need to start another one with the class, but, it was a committed time to work on finishing. I went through every ufo bucket twice and no luck finding it. I gave it one more try Friday night, and found the bucket. All my buckets are labeled, why was it so hard to ...

But, I am still feeling confident that I can keep with the schedule. So far, the clues have not seemed overwhelming or difficult. I chose this colorway, but there is a gray and royal blue colorway as well.
The light squares were made using pieces I had cut wrong for my Lucy's basket quilt. They were the right size.

I cut the strips I would need for the first step of the old world country fantasy mystery from Quilted Twins.
We spent the evening in the living room watching television and I didn't want to go upstairs to my sewing room, so, I decided to treadle the seams. It isn't as fast but, it gets the job done.
It didn't take long before I had the first clue done.
This is Becky's first mystery, and I was really looking forward to making it. I like her quilts and wanted to try something new. I had ... read more
Hi everyone! How is your week going? I don't mind telling you that it's been fairly good here for the past little while. It has been unseasonably warm and mostly just lovely outside. I spent last weekend at an academic conference in Washington DC without a coat. In January. It was so nice that a couple of us skipped out on the afternoon session and went sightseeing-- and we walked. It was awesome. The conference might have been okay, too. At least my paper was!
So now I'm home and I have a ton of work to ...
